Who We Are
Mission RMHC of the Miami Valley Region, Inc. provides a temporary home-away-from-home for families of critically ill, hospitalized children and supports efforts that improve children's health within our region.
Vision
Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Miami Valley Region, Inc. is committed to improving the lives of our region's children.
History
In 1978, a small group of parents, Children's Medical Center staff, and volunteers identified the need for temporary housing to serve families of critically ill children in the Dayton area. Local McDonald's owner/operators pledged over half of the funds needed for the purchase and renovation of the 14th Ronald McDonald House built at 741 Valley Street. The remaining funds were raised by the newly incorporated Board of Trustees.
On February 1, 1980 the Dayton Ronald McDonald House opened, consisting of seven guestrooms, 4 ½ baths, a kitchen/dining area, shared offices, playroom, parlor, patio, and an apartment for live-in staff. In the early days of the organization, a live-in resident, who was responsible for the facility, staffed the House 24 hours a day.
In 1992, the leadership of the Dayton Ronald McDonald House recognized that the need had outgrown the space provided. Following extensive research, in September of 1996 the Board of Trustees kicked-off a $3,200,000 capital campaign, and on November 5, 1998 the Ronald McDonald House of Dayton moved into the current facility at 555 Valley Street. This House has 14 overnight guest bedrooms with private baths, four kitchens, a large dining room, a playroom, two family rooms, a library, elevator and other amenities.
Also in 1998, the Dayton Ronald McDonald House merged with Ronald McDonald Children's Charities of the Miami Valley, Inc. creating Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Miami Valley Region, Inc.
Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Miami Valley Region, Inc. is a private nonprofit organization. Each chapter of Ronald McDonald House Charities is autonomous, with its own Board of Trustees, responsible for the governance of the organization.
